Progression of Paintings

Sometimes I do two paintings at a time when I am using the same techniques and/or colors. These photos illustrate how these two paintings progressed.

First, I cut scraps of paper from my vintage books and use Modge Podge to put them where I want them. One of them is Grimm's Fairy Tales and the other is an old music book--both from the 1800's. A bibliophile would hate me for this.

Next, I pencil in the subject. Sometimes I use oil pastels to do this. Often I cut the girl or kitty right out of my sketch book and trace around it onto the canvas.

Next, I paint the backgound.

Then I paint the subject and glue on other paper if used.

Then I paint the details. This is the part my kids laugh at me about, because I am wearing glasses and also look through a magnified light when I do this! My eyes aren't what they used to be! ugh!

I sign my painting and add my signature heart somewhere. Then I usually use my beloved crackle on it. After a few hours of drying, I antique it with either brown or black paint watered down. I wipe off the excess and give it one or two coats of Modge Podge luster. I like the thick texture it gives! These paintings will probably go up on Ebay tonight.

Don't forget I still have 3 paintings on Ebay for only ONE PENNY starting bid! As a bonus these paintings include a small wire easel for display! Check it out!

Well....I am a bibliophile and I do the same thing with old worn out books.;)My local library has a once a year sale & for about $5 I get a carton of old books that would have gone to a shredder anyway.
I love seeing the 'behind the scenes' of how you paint those sweet paintings. Oh yes...and I'm another one with glasses and sometimes even magnifying glasses and then a lighted magnifier. My hubby asked me what I'd do when my eyes get so bad that even that won't work...I told him I'll start painting like Jackson Pollack.lol

Gosh, sounds like a lot of work to me but it's worth it the way it turns out.

What an interesting technique and they turned out beautiful! I can't multi-task when creating anything so I'm fascinated by those who can!

I love both of these Cris. It is funny what Kelly said about the magnifying glass and lights. Ha ha . We know all about that. I also love what Kolleen's kids say, ' What in the world '. I get that even when working on one. Ha ha
Love seeing your work in progress, but I must say if they could only see them in person. Pictures just do not do your painting justice.
